A Rákóczi Alapítvány minden tanévben kétszer, ősszel és tavasszal ösztöndíjpályázatot hirdet azoknak az egyetemista és főiskolás fiataloknak, akik tagjai a Rákóczi Családi Körnek. A 2022/23-as esztendő őszi pályázatára jelentkeztek eddig a legtöbben, szám szerint 54 hallgató. Október 14-ig a legtöbben Kárpátaljáról (18 fő) és Erdélyből (24 fő) küldték be a szükséges dokumentumokat, de akadtak szép számmal Rákóczisok Délvidékről (9 vajdasági és 1 horvátországi) és Felvidékről (1 fő) is.
A Rákóczis egyetemisták és főiskolások sokféle szakmát tanulnak a magyarországi és határon túli felsőoktatási intézményekben – többségük az anyanyelvén tanul, de akadnak olyanok is akik szerbül, románul vagy angolul végzik a tanulmányaikat. Az ösztöndíjasok közül kerülnek ki a jövő pedagógusai, teológusai, szociológusai, történészei, közgazdászai, természettudósai, építészei, informatikusai, mérnökei, diplomatái, nyelvészei, orvosai és zenészei.
Az elnyert támogatást legtöbben a lakhatási és az étkezési költségeikre fordítják majd, valamint a tankönyveik beszerzésére, az oktatáshoz szükséges speciális felszerelésekre (például orvosi eszközökre, hegedűhúrokra vagy számítógépre), illetve az egyetemi városuk és a lakóhelyük közötti utazásra. Többen is kihangsúlyozták, hogy a Rákóczi Alapítványtól kapott ösztöndíjat a szintén tanuló testvéreikkel is megosztanák.
Az 2022/23-as tanév őszi szemeszterében 18 kárpátaljai fiatal jelentkezett az ösztöndíjprogramra. A csatolt bemutatkozásokban a tanulmányi és családi hátterük mellett arról is írtak, hogyan hatott eddig rájuk a február óta zajló orosz-ukrán háború. Sokan attól is félnek, hogy vajon mi történik az otthon maradott szeretteikkel. Többen arról számoltak be, hogy nem térhetnek haza a szülőföldjükre.
„Sajnos nem tudtam haza menni a nyáron, mivel hadköteles vagyok.” – írta egy református lelkésznek tanuló ifjú.
Egy debreceni egyetemista fiú Tiszabökényből a következőképp fogalmazott: „Édesapám hosszú éveken át szolgált katonaként, határőrként, emiatt tartalékosként van nyilvántartva. Én és az édesapám már több mint 7 hónapja nem voltunk otthon, ami miatt gyötör a honvágy, viszont nincs lehetőségünk hazamenni ebben a helyzetben, mert kipostázták a behívót a seregbe.”
„A háború miatt az édesapám nem tud haza jönni, immár több mint fél éve. Illetve az egyetemista nővérem sem, mivel csak magyar útlevéllel rendelkezik és most így nem engedik be az országba.” – osztotta meg félelmeit a II. Rákóczi Kárpátaljai Magyar Főiskola egyik hallgatója.
A Rákóczi Alapítványnak sok éven keresztül három fő tevékenységi köre volt, a Magyarságismereti Mozgótábor, a felsőoktatásban tanulók részére hirdetett ösztöndíjprogram és az ungvári étkeztetési program. Ez a három kör egészült ki egy negyedik ponttal, a kárpátaljai magyar intézmények és az Ukrajnából menekülők megsegítésével. A Rákóczi Alapítvány többmillió forintnak megfelelő segélyt nyújtott például a Ráton működő Szent Mihály Egészségügyi-Szociális Gyermek Rehabilitációs Központnak is. A 2018 óta működő intézmény elsődleges célja, hogy a Ráti Szent Mihály Gyermekotthonban élő árva és elhagyott gyerekek fizikai és pszichés rehabilitációját szolgálja. A központ szolgáltatásait a gyermekotthonon túl, a környező családsegítő otthonokból, árvaházakból és a Kárpátalja szerte élő családokból is bárki igénybe veheti.
A Rákóczi Alapítvány mindezeket a karitatív munkákat a többségében Kanadában élő, magyar származású nagylelkű támogatóinak köszönhetően tudja megvalósítani. Az alapítvány látókörében lévő fiatalok, aki részt vettek a Rákóczi táborban, az étkeztetési programban vagy elnyerték az adott félévben az ösztöndíjat, köszönőleveleket írnak az adakozóknak, amelyben hálájukat fejezhetik ki a támogatásért. Az idei ősszel a következőképpen fogalmaztak az egyetemista vagy főiskolás fiatalok:
„Szeretném megköszönni Önnek, hogy támogatja a tanulmányaim elvégzését. Tényleg nagy segítség ez nekem és a családomnak, amiért nagyon hálás vagyok.” – írta egy kárpátaljai lány.
Egy építészhallgató kiemelte, hogy „a támogatás megkönnyíti a mindennapokat, valamint az egyetemi eszközök beszerzését. Nem tudok eléggé hálás lenni ezért a jótettért, szeretném Önnek mélységes köszönetemet kifejezni!”
„Fantasztikus érzés megtapasztalni, hogy mindig van kire számítanom – fogalmazott egy erdélyi lány. – Az Alapítvány támogatói által csodálatos lehetőségeket biztosít, eszközt ad a tanulni és fejlődni vágyó kisebbségi fiataloknak, amely hatalmas érték és nagyon szép karitatív cél. Szívből köszönöm azt, hogy Önök engem támogattak és, hogy láttak bennem esélyt, illetve, hogy Önök velem együtt szeretnék azt, hogy az egyetemi továbbtanulásom által fejlődni tudjak, hasznos tagja lehessek a kisebbségi székely közösségnek és, hogy ehhez anyagiakban is nagyban hozzájárultak.”
A Rákóczi Alapítvány a 2022/23-as tanév őszi félévében $25,100 kanadai dollárt osztott szét az 54 hallgató között. 2018 februárja óta 312 főiskolás vagy egyetemista fiatal részesült tanulmányi ösztöndíjban. The Rákóczi Foundation awards scholarships twice each academic year, in autumn and spring, to university and college students who are members of the Rákóczi Family Circle. Fifty-four students receive for the year 2022/23. Compared to previous years, more people applied now. By October 14, more people from Transcarpathia, Ukraine (18 students) and Transylvania, Romania (24 students) had sent in the necessary documents. In addition, nine Hungarian university students applied from Vojvodina, Serbia, and one person each from Croatia and Slovakia.
The university and college students who applied study a variety of professions in Hungary and surrounding countries. Most of them are able to study in their mother tongue, but there are also those who complete their studies in Serbian, Romanian or English. The scholarship recipients will be future teachers, theologians, sociologists, historians, economists, scientists, architects, computer scientists, engineers, diplomats, linguists, doctors and musicians.
Most of the received support will be used for housing and food costs, as well as for the purchase of textbooks, special equipment needed for education (such as medical equipment, violin strings or a computer), and travel between their location of university and their place of residence. Several people emphasized that they would share the scholarship they received from the Rákóczi Foundation with their university and/or high school siblings.
Eighteen young people from Transcarpathia in Ukraine applied for the scholarship program in the fall semester of the 2022/23 academic year. In the attached introductions, in addition to their academic and family background, they also wrote about how the Russian-Ukrainian war has affected them. Many are also afraid of what will happen to their loved ones who stayed at home. Several people reported that they could not return home to their homeland.
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t go home in the summer because I would be drafted.” – wrote a young man studying to be a reformed minister.
A young man from Transcarpathia, who studies at the University of Debrecen writes: “My father served as a soldier and border guard for many years, which is why he is registered as a reservist. My father and I haven’t been home for more than seven months, which makes us homesick. However, we cannot go home in this situation, because then they will send the call-up to the army.”
One of the students of the Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education shared her fears: “My father has not been able to come home for more than half a year because of the war. Neither does my university student sister, she only has a Hungarian passport and now she is not allowed into the country.”
For more than many years, the Rákóczi Foundation has had three main activities, the Students Without Boundaries program, the scholarship program and the hot lunch program in Ungvár (Uzhhorod) Ukraine. These three activities were supplemented by a fourth one, helping Hungarian institutions in Transcarpathia and refugees from Ukraine. For example, the Rákóczi Foundation provided five thousand forints to the Saint Michael Health-Social Children’s Rehabilitation Center operating in Rát (Rativci) in Ukraine. The primary goal of the institution, which has been operating since 2018, is to serve the physical and psychological rehabilitation of orphaned and abandoned children living in the Saint Michael Children’s Home in Rativci. In addition to the children’s home, the center’s services can be used by anyone from the surrounding family support homes, orphanages, and families living throughout Transcarpathia.
The Rákóczi Foundation is able to implement all these charitable works thanks to its generous supporters, most of whom live in Canada and are of Hungarian origin. Young people participating in the foundation’s programs write thank-you letters to the donors, in which they can express their gratitude for the support. This fall, university or college students wrote:
“I would like to thank you for supporting me to complete my studies. It’s really a big help for me and my family, for which I’m very grateful.” – wrote young woman from Transcarpathia.
A student of architecture emphasized that “the support makes everyday life easier, as well as the acquisition of university equipment. I cannot be grateful enough for this good deed, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to you!”
“It’s a fantastic feeling to experience that I always have someone to count on – said a young woman from Transylvania. – Through the supporters of the Foundation, it provides wonderful opportunities and gives a tool to minority youth who want to learn and develop, which is a huge value and a very nice charitable goal. I thank you from the bottom of my heart that you supported me and that you saw a chance in me, and that you, together with me, want to be able to develop through my further studies at the university, to be a useful member of the minority székely community, and that you have also made a great financial contribution to this.”
The Rákóczi Foundation distributed $25,100 Canadian dollars among the 54 students in the fall semester of the 2022/23 academic year. Since February 2018, 312 college and/or university students have received study grants. The Foundation provided them with more than $122,000 dollars in support.
